About Compare Funerals

Since 2020, Compare Funerals has been offering its services in Spain, providing English-speaking funeral directors throughout the country. Our plans are backed by a independent trust.

Funerals in Spain

Funeral planning in Spain has changed over the years, with many people now opting for direct cremations due to the absence of chapels in most Spanish crematoriums. The number of direct cremations in Spain is now estimated to be around 70%, making it the most popular funeral option in the country because they are generally much simpler and cheaper than traditional funerals.

The Spanish Funeral Process

In Spain, funerals must happen within 48 hours of passing, which can be difficult for the relatives of expats living abroad. Many want to be present immediately, but organising the journey may take some time. If you opt for one of our plans, we will ensure that the morgue will provide additional time for the family to attend. Furthermore, a lot of paperwork needs to be completed when somebody dies in Spain, and our plans will guarantee that all these documents are taken care of for you.

Direct Cremation

A direct cremation funeral is a type of cremation service where the deceased is cremated shortly after death, without a traditional funeral service or viewing. This means that there is no embalming, wake, or funeral ceremony.

If and when you take up a plan you will receive all documents in the post. Included in the documents is your plan certificate, keys facts, terms and condition but most importantly 2 blue cards containing our emergency contact details. We provide 2 so that you can keep one and give the other to a friend or family member.

When the time comes, someone will call whether it be you next of kin a Dr or nurse. We would then instruct the appointed funeral director who will collect the you and place you under our care.

With the direct cremation plan, it will be a unattended cremation usually within 48 hours, after the cremation we will register the death with the authorities and obtain the relevant documentation. (Death certs both Spanish and internation copies as well as cremation cert) One we have those back, we will return to a nominated person with the ashes along with paperwork. Overall once we have been informed, we will take care of everything and allow the people you leave behind the opportunity to come to terms with the loss.

Is this what you though it was or is it too simple for you?
